Like freelancers, consultants tend to work with more than one client at a time.
This is where the similarity ends though. Typically, the role of a consultant is to assess all or part of a client’s business and provide an expert opinion on the work that needs to be done to improve it, whereas contractors and freelancers are generally recruited to carry out the work itself.
Because consultants work almost exclusively in an advisory role – often at executive level – they are not normally held responsible for the outcome of their consultation.
